Quarter-life

You really got fucked this time.

I’d shoot you myself, too, but we have dreams, don’t we?

Some ancestor of ours must have left a real big debt for you to take the fall like this.

This is to remind you of the person you are, that whatever happened to you--yeah, that should never, ever happen to anyone--will only make you stronger and better for the person to come, whoever she is, she who’ll make you realize why it never worked out with anyone else before.

Whoever you were, however you loved, please don’t change because of what happened to you. You must be made for someone great, or you must be made for great things, if life gives you cards like these. Maybe, maybe not. Nevertheless, always, always, always remember the person you were, the person you’ve always been, and don’t let the suffering take you somewhere dark and leave you drowning with hatred. Yes, it’s an unfair world, but it takes only one person to make it all worth it. You thought it was her, maybe it was her for a while, but that’s not the case now, isn’t it. There is no light now, I know, it is dark everywhere. So I write this to you today on your birthday to remind you that you can do this, that you are good, and that you can make it. Let this be your light, and you can reread this a hundred times and it will never change: you did good, kid, you can rest for now because you just survived, and you’re stronger, I promise you are. The next girl will sure like you, ha.

Fuck it, kid. We all get fucked. Some more unfortunate than others. I guess we’re one of the more unlucky ones. But don’t lose hope. Remember who you are. Today, when so many things are changing, and it gets louder and louder everyday, remember the listener you are, remember that all you’re going through is for you to become the best person you can be for yourself and for that one cute girl who will make all the tears and slowness worth it. You’re getting better at this, don’t stop.

You’ll be okay, kid. Ikaw pa.

Happy birthday, Monching.

Quarter-life lived well? Yes, despite everything.

To getting better.
